Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines says its home to the busiest ER in Iowa.
Now, that emergency room is getting bigger and more advanced. Today, Mercy unveiled its new seven million dollar addition to its ER operation. The addition includes an elevated helipad, new state of the art treatment rooms and even a high tech decontamination area for high risk or contaminated patients. The new ER also allows doctors and nurses to keep a closer eye on their patients.
Dr. James Poole said, “We're not tucked back in a corner to try and fill out reports and dictate reports. But instead we are more direct we have a more direct line of sight with patients. So that we can actually see what's happening to them while it’s happening.”
This is just phase one of Mercy's renovation plan. Phase two, which will consolidate Emergency Room and Trauma services, is underway.
Phase three starts later this year.
