Methodist Tests New Advanced Air Ambulance

POSTED: 1:44 pm CDT August 12, 2008

Iowa Methodist Medical Center tested its new Life Flight helicopter Tuesday.

Life Flight crews took the copter on a short test flight around the city.

Hospital officials said the new helicopter is faster than the old one and has advanced technology that allows it to fly in rain, snow and at night.

The helicopter also has more room for patients, crewmembers and family.

"The new C-145 will be able to have a parent or family member go with our crew back to the hospital," said Tom Mulrooney with Iowa Health Des Moines.

The new helicopter cost $6.2 million.

Methodist will start using it starting next summer.
