Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines gave KCCI cameras a look inside its new surgery center Sunday.

The $19 million facility has been under renovation for more than three years. It will offer separate adult and pediatric wings and state-of-the-art surgical equipment.

“We’re certainly happy to have it done,” said Dr. Michael Irish of Blank Children's Hospital. “We’re very proud of the new center and the families that have experienced it seem to be very pleased, too. That’s the bottom line.”

The new surgery center will care for more than 20,000 patients per year, Irish said.
