Ryan Luby
Ryan Luby joined KCCI as a reporter in May 2008.
Prior to joining the NewsChannel 8 team, Ryan spent three years as a general assignment and investigative reporter, and fill-in anchor, at KOMU-TV, the NBC affiliate in Columbia, Missouri. While there, Ryan won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for an investigative series he co-produced and co-reported, the "$46 Billion Gamble," which uncovered how susceptible the nation’s 21 (now 20) B2 stealth bombers are to severe weather. He also placed as a top finalist in the prestigious Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) Awards program for that series.
He also reported the “Boats, Booze and the Badge” investigative series for KOMU, which uncovered the lewd and dangerous behavior involving alcohol abuse at “Party Cove” on the Lake of the Ozarks. The series was influential in lowering Missouri’s legal BAC level from .1 to .08 in marine environments.
Ryan grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. He went to the University of Missouri-Columbia and graduated with a degree in journalism and an emphasis in Spanish.
Ryan is no stranger to Iowa. He has several friends who live in Waterloo, Dubuque, and Sioux City, and has cousins who live in Bettendorf. He says he’s thrilled to work at the best television station in Iowa and looks forward to meeting the wonderful and nice people of Central Iowa.
In his spare time, Ryan enjoys eating at fantastic local restaurants, golfing, playing tennis, and spending time with his friends. He lives in West Des Moines.
