Amanda Lewis anchors NewsChannel 8 on Saturday and Sunday mornings. She also reports for KCCI during the week.Amanda started working for KCCI in February 2002 as a photographer. Her work has been seen on CBS's "Inside Edition" and Animal Planet's "The Planet's Funniest Animals."She is an award-winning reporter. In 2001, Amanda received the "HEROES Compassion and Excellence in Journalism Award" for a series of stories she wrote about Iowans living with AIDS.
Amanda graduated from Drake University with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. She's also certified in television production. While at Drake, she was one of a few students chosen to attend an international journalism conference in Germany.Amanda extended her trip, exploring Europe for a month. Her favorite spot is the beach on the island of Lido -- off the coast of Italy in the Adriatic Sea. "I can remember standing knee deep in the water watching fishing boats, and a little creature crawled over my foot. It struck me how far away from home I was. And how we all depend on one another."Amanda started her career in radio in the early 1990s. She's musically inclined, winning almost a dozen vocal solo and combo awards in high school. Amanda is married to Des Moines Register reporter and they live in Des Moines.They have one child -- a son they named Elliot. They also have one fuzzy boy -- a diabetic cat named Luke.
