Metinka Slater joined Storm Team in January 2006. Her love for weather started the minute she saw her first tornado as a young girl growing up in Guthrie Center, Iowa.While obtaining her bachelor's degree in meteorology from Iowa State University, she quickly became one of John McLaughlin's favorite weather interns. You might remember Metinka from her work as a meteorologist at WOI from 1996 to 2002. Since then she has most recently been staying home with her young children.When she's not forecasting the weather, Metinka can be found spending time with her husband, Brian, and their three children. Rounding out the Slater household are her cats Nimbus and Shasta and the newest addition -- a cat named Prince Charming. If she ever has a spare moment, she likes to catch up with her friends, squeeze in some scrapbooking, or do some shoe shopping.
